Summary: Although AKI is common among hospitalized children, comprehensive epidemiologic data are lacking. This study characterizes pediatric AKI across the United States and identifies AKI risk factors using high-content/high-throughput analytic techniques.

This study represents the largest epidemiologic description of pediatric AKI to date. Use of a large discharge database and an innovative ensemble learning approach allowed us to describe the incidence, demographics, outcomes, and associations for pediatric AKI across the United States.
